Branson Restaurant Owned By College of the Ozarks Graduates Featured on 'America's Greatest Restaurants'

Branson, MO — Tucked away in the Ozark hills and steeped in heartland hospitality, Hidden Pines Restaurant has quietly built a devoted following with its made-from-scratch menu and welcoming charm. Now, this Branson gem is stepping into the national spotlight after being featured by America’s Greatest Restaurants, a series with readers from across the country that highlights standout locally-owned restaurants across the country.

Founded by College of the Ozarks graduates Pierce Evans and Chad Thomas, Hidden Pines is more than just a restaurant—it’s a testament to grit, creativity, and the values instilled at one of the country’s most unique institutions. Known for providing a debt-free Christian education in exchange for student work, the College of the Ozarks has long prided itself on producing graduates who lead with integrity and work ethic. Evans and Thomas are proving exactly that.

“We wanted to create a place where people felt like family, and where the food reminded them of home—but elevated,” said Evans, a Branson native who cut his teeth managing high-volume restaurants while still in college. “Being recognized by America’s Greatest Restaurants is huge for us, not just because of the exposure, but because it validates the love and hard work we’ve poured into this place.”

A Menu That Honors the Ozarks—And Everyone at the Table

What sets Hidden Pines apart isn’t just its comfort-food roots—it’s the restaurant’s thoughtful attention to detail, both in flavor and inclusivity. Guests rave about the hand-breaded onion rings, locally sourced steaks, and biscuits and gravy. And for those with dietary restrictions, Hidden Pines goes the extra mile. The menu clearly highlights top allergens and offers gluten-free and alpha-gal friendly options—an uncommon and welcome sight in the traditionally indulgent world of Southern comfort food.

“We’ve had customers able to enjoy menu certain items for the first time in years without fear,” said Thomas. “That’s why we do what we do.”

National Attention, Local Roots

The America’s Greatest Restaurants feature showcases what regulars already know: Hidden Pines offers a high-quality, unpretentious dining experience rooted in local pride. For Evans and Thomas, the moment is surreal. Just a few years ago, the two friends were college students dreaming of launching something that would stand the test of time in a town known more for its tourist turnover than its quality dining options. “Branson isn’t always the easiest place to introduce new ideas,” Evans admitted. “But we believed in what we were doing. We stuck it out, and we’ve built something that’s now being recognized nationwide. That’s pretty special.”

A Future as Bright as Its Legacy

Hidden Pines is constantly innovating and looking for new ways to stand out, signaling even more exciting things to come. Though currently open Thursday through Sunday, Evans hints at expanded hours in the future and even more community-focused offerings.

As the America’s Greatest Restaurants feature continues to rack up views online, locals and travelers alike are finding their way to Hidden Pines—sometimes driving hours for a meal that feeds both stomach and soul.
